Details of event

THE KYIV ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS, CONDUCTOR/DIRECTOR WES JANZEN

During Soviet times Christian masterpieces and other classical works were forbidden, amended or given little attention. The Kyiv Syphony Orchestra and Chorus seeks to bring these wonderful works back into the public eye, and give them the credit they deserve.

During the past 18 years, this group of singers and instrumentalists - founded by Roger McMurrin in 1993 - has performed in the National Opera of Ukraine, Carnegie Hall in New York City, and other leading venues in the USA, Ukraine, Russia and Central Asia. Concerts have been done not only in concert halls, but also in churches and universities.

The overwhelming majority of music companies in Kyiv are choirs, symphony orchestras or operatic troupes. The age-old traditions developed by the Orthodox Church account for the fact that saсred music in Ukraine is performed primarily “a capella”. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus combines the potential of both singers and instrumentalists, giving it a unique opportunity to present both Western and Slavic masterpieces.

The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus has recorded 17 CDs and two DVDs.

In Tallinn they will perform among others pieces by J. S. Bach, F. J. Haydn, G. F. Handel, N. Rimski-Korsakov and S. Rahmaninov. The soloists from Crescendo Summer Institute – Polina Kulikova, Linda Fogelsone and Olga Tombaks – will add their voices to Kyiv's musicians.
